Child safety policy

At Jade Belly Dance, we are committed to providing a safe environment for children and young people. Our approach to preventing harm is embedded in our policies and training procedures. We ensure our staff and volunteers are supported to have the skills, knowledge and confidence to be child safe eg. WWCC and successfully completing our in-house children’s dance teaching training course. We value the input of, and communicate regularly with, families and carers.
Code of Conduct
Staff
We take child and student safety seriously at Jade Belly Dance and hold staff to high standards. For our staff code of conduct please read on. * All staff are to hold a current Working with Children Check or equivalent * Commit to providing quality teaching in every class * Staff are to speak to children in respectful manner at all times eg, no swearing or belittling * Staff should strive to use positive and encouraging language as much as possible * Staff should display good manners and friendliness in public situations with other studios, dancers and teachers and the public. * Never use or bring alcohol, drugs, cigarettes, vapes or pornography to the dance studio, dance class or performance venue * Do not use strong perfumes or aerosols around children * Seek appropriate first aid for any illness or injury and fill out an incident form * Copying of resources is not permitted without permission. Illegal copies of syllabi, music, DVD’s etc must not be given to students or other teachers. * Ensure that confidential information received in the course of professional work is not used for personal advantage * Be mindful of professional contact boundaries and do not have out-of-hours contact with child students * Do not post identifiable pictures of students in class on personal social media accounts without permission from principal * Do not allow spectators to watch dance classes unless they are the parent or guardian of one of the children. * Do not allow any unauthorised photography or video of students in class. * Do not leave children unattended * Ensure children leave with their parent or designated pick up person * Ensure that any physical contact is appropriate and professional * Report any concerns about child safety verbally and in writing to management
